Processing Foundation
Call / Code / Response was developed through the Processing Foundation
Fellowship as an experiment in community-centered creative technology. For the 2025 cohort, fellows were paired with community partners to co-develop software responding to real artistic needs.
Fellows Ana C., Jiwon Ham, and Payton Croskey partnered with four community organizations to support LIVE FROM LA, a youth-led theatre production created by twelve young people ages 13-19.
Created by Street Poets, Inc., Unusual Suspects Theatre Company, and the Processing Foundation, with Versa-Style Street Dance Company and No Easy Props joining as creative partners. Together, the fellows designed and built the projection system used in the performance, allowing the students to create digital collages drawn from their own families and neighborhoods. These images were projected across the stage as part of the play the youth wrote and performed themselves. The project demonstrates how creative coding can become a collaborative tool for storytelling, enabling communities to shape the technological systems that amplify their voices.

The Processing Foundation Fellowship supports artists and creative technologists developing open-source creative tools and practices that expand access to creative technology. Through financial support, mentorship, and community partnerships, fellows create tools, artistic works, and research that contribute to a more open and accessible creative coding ecosystem. • Learn more about the Fellowship - https://processingfoundation.org/fell... • Support programs like this - https://processingfoundation.org/donate
